About Our Brand

What does "universally designed" clothing mean?

Universal design means creating clothing that is built first and foremost around the needs of individuals with disabilities and medical conditions — and designed so that anyone would want to wear it.

Most fashion is designed for an able-bodied person and then "adapted" as an afterthought — think velcro closures sewn over buttons, or elastic waistbands that sacrifice style for function. At Love, Emma, we flip that entirely. We start with the question: what does this person actually need to get dressed with ease, comfort, and confidence? Then we design something stunning around that answer.

The result is clothing that works for a wider range of bodies, needs, and moments — not because we made it simpler, but because we made it smarter. A woman in a wheelchair and her best friend should both be able to reach for the same dress and feel equally seen in it. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.

Why does this matter?

Getting dressed is one of the most personal acts of self-expression we have. For the 1 in 4 women living with a disability or chronic illness, that act is often made unnecessarily difficult — by zippers that are impossible to reach, fabrics that irritate sensitive skin, or silhouettes that simply weren't designed with their body in mind.

Love, Emma exists because fashion should never be a barrier. When clothing works for everyone from the start, it stops being "accessible fashion" and starts being just — fashion.
